MCAA 2017 Construction Technology Report

JB Knowledge in association with the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) have released the 6th Annual Construction Technology Report. Data for this report was complied in 2017 and is an indicator of the technology being used today, and how their increasing integration into daily operations will affect the future. Over the past six years the study has expanded to include a broad range of participants that work in the construction field. There were 2,690 respondents, of which, 316 were MCAA members. Of the respondents 32 percent were General Contractors and 29 percent were subcontractors. Subcontractors who responded primarily operated in Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, and Electrical trades. Over 40 percent of the companies surveyed have been in business for over 50 years and less than 10 percent of companies surveyed have been operating for 10 years or less. The report goes on to show the range of work, the primary area where companies work, and the position of the respondents.
Some of the highlights were companies that are looking at increasing the number of employees dedicated to IT. Many companies site financial limitations as the main factor for lack of IT staff, however “companies reported a very promising effort in securing cloud data in 2017.” Overall, there is a shift occurring around cloud technology and it’s mobile capabilities that affect where the industry is going. The increasing variety of software available is ever-changing and the versatility of one program could be the difference in winning that next bid. Take an in-depth look at the report here.
