UCC Apprentices Hold Their Own in Regional Competition

UCC Apprentice Dave Opoulos took second place in the plumbing category at the recent Regional Apprenticeship Contest held in Van Nuys, California.

The 2016 UA District 5 Regional Apprenticeship Contest, attracts entries from 11 western states. Each competitor was required to complete a series of tests in each field, demonstrating both their theoretical and practical skill set.

Utah’s contestants, working for different local companies, competed in four of the six different categories of the contest. Participating apprentices were:

  • HVAC – Mike Deihl, Commercial Mechanical;
  • Welding – Zac Lewis, CB & I;
  • Pipefitter – Chris Valentine, Harder Mechanical, and
  • Plumber – Dave Opoulos, MSS.

This contest is for the best apprentices in each category for Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and Nevada.
