Utah Career Center News: Apprenticeship Interviews, Upcoming Contest & New Classes

The Utah Career Center will be hosting a series of professional development courses. The UCC will host an EPRI Certified Riggers Class on April 30th. A pre-test is required for those who want to attend the class, any interested parties should contact the Utah Career Center. Additionally, the Utah Career Center will host continuing education classes for Plumbers on April 23, 25 & 30th from 5PM to 9PM. Finally, there will be a  Medical Gas Installer Certification course starting May 8, 2018 and ending June 5, 2018. Classes will be held every Tuesday-Thursday from 6PM – 9PM Registration is now available, but is very limited, and will close on Thursday, May 3, 2018. The Utah Career Center will be holding interviews for Plumber/Pipefitter apprenticeship applicants from April 2-4 and new HVAC apprenticeship applicants on April 19th. Contractors and Plumbers are strongly encouraged to send letter of recommendation with the applicant to their interview or email them directly to Will Nickell at the Utah Career Center.

The Utah Career Center will be holding an apprentice skills competition on Saturday, May 5. This competition will determine the apprentice representatives from the Utah Career Center for the District 5 Regional contest in June. The contestants are:

HVAC:
Jesse Breinholt – Mechanical Service & Systems and Dominick Romero – CCI Mechanical, Inc.

Welder:
James Bates – Total Facility Solutions, Peder Holmstead – Industrial Piping & Welding, Inc., and Shaun Ford – CBI Mechanical

Pipefitter:
Josh Linscomb – Mechanical Service & Systems and Jason Lueders – Harder Mechanical

Plumber:
Mason Finch – CCI Mechanical, Inc., Julio Zuniga – KOH Mechanical Contractors, and Travis Jessup – KHI Mechanical Contractors

The competition will run from 7AM–12PM, and lunch will be provided for participants only. Following the contest and judging the winners will be announced. Members interested in attending the May 5 contest as spectators are welcome and encouraged. Come and see what apprentices do and the skill it takes to compete in the contest.
